Scrapbook village: India Hill Garden

Tammy Dinauer, parent volunteers in India Hill, offers little background in the Park:

In may, as part of an Education Program, a student of Indian PTO Hill School starting seeds in the classroom. While they are waiting for the seeds to grow, teachers teach about plant biology and plant needs to live.

In June David Stokes came to natural spring Program when the seeds are ready to be planted. Kindergarten through 2nd grade had the chance to plant marigold, Zinnia, nasturtiums, and corn. Students learn the difference between annuals and perennials and also help perennials plants that have been donated by the parents.

Many plants have unusual colors, textures, and smells so we also learn about sensory gardens. Now that fall has arrived, the students can see how big and beautiful seeds they have grown. The corn is harvested in October and the kids have to taste the fresh corn on their own in the classroom.

Editor's Note: If You have a picture show or your family (included pets)? We would like to paint pictures of what it is like having to Bayside or Fox point residents. If You have pictures that you want us to use in our scrapbook, email editor Sarah Worthman at: sarah.worthman@patch.com.
